It\u2019s that time of year again\u2026☀️🐍<\/p>\n

With the early heat, those darn 🐍rattlesnakes are already out and about. Stay alert! It\u2019s simple\u2014don\u2019t reach or step where you can\u2019t see. Keep your 👀eyes and👂ears on the trail!<\/p>\n

Last weekend, one of our volunteers was doing weeding at our rescue property and got struck by a rattler. Thankfully he\u2019s fine, not sure the snake is, and thankfully he was wearing snake guards\u2014which made all the difference.! Snake guards or snake boots are very important this time of year. Yes, they\u2019re hot and kind of annoying, but they work!<\/p>\n

If you or someone with you gets bitten by a rattlesnake, here\u2019s what to do:<\/p>\n

‼️⚠️Call 911 and follow their instructions‼️That\u2019s it!<\/strong><\/p>\n

They may have you remove clothing or jewelry near the bite because of swelling or tell you whether to move or stay put depending on the situation.<\/p>\n

What not<\/strong><\/em> to do:
\n⚠️ Don\u2019t use ice or a tourniquet
\n⚠️ Don\u2019t try to suck out the venom
\n⚠️️ Don\u2019t rely on Benadryl\u2014it\u2019s not helpful and can even be dangerous<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re heading somewhere without cell service, it\u2019s a good idea to have a satellite communication device\u2014there are some very affordable ones out there now.<\/p>\n

And with this hotter-than-normal weather\u2026 don\u2019t forget to 💧hydrate. Pre-hydrate-you should start before you head out! When you\u2019re working or hiking in the heat, try to drink about a cup (8oz) of water every 15\u201320 minutes (around 24\u201332 oz an hour).<\/p>\n

Stay safe out there\u2014and keep your head on a swivel!<\/p>\n
