This is why our game camera program matters. We try to identify individuals and changes in movement, and correlating wild horse movement. We like to keep the public informed when it matters, so please be aware that this mountain lion has been frequenting both sides of the river.<\/p>\n
Mountain lions are a sign of a healthy ecosystem, and they have plenty of javelinas and deerto hunt, but as we know too well, they also take many young Salt River wild horses, which is so heartbreaking. <\/p>\n
Luckily, our 2024 babies: Iris, Wonder and Strider, are strong yearlings now, and they blend in well with the adults now. We\u2019re hopeful that continues to keep them safe. They will be turning 2 this year!<\/p>\n
So far, we have not observed the mountain lions in the hills where Moonfire lives. We continue to keep our eyes on him daily, and are glad he is growing up fast, but we usually hold our breath, until they are past a year old.<\/p>\n
